Consists of five citizens appointed by the Mayor (with Council approval). The Chairman is elected by the Commission. The five year terms begin May 1. There shall not be more than three members belonging to the same political party serving on the Commission at any one time.

The Police and Fire Commission shall have the duties and powers set forth in Wisconsin Statutes (WSA), Section 62.13. Besides these basic powers, the Board has the following optional powers:

  • Organize and supervise the Fire and Police Departments and to prescribe rules and regulations for their control and management
  • Contract for and purchase all necessary apparatus and supplies for the use of the departments under their supervision, exclusive of the erection and control of the police and fire station buildings
